Artistic Design
•
The artist may paint, sculpt, transform and adorn the rain barrel but structural integrity of the rain
recycler must not be compromised. The net opening for recycling rain shall not be altered nor
obstructed.
•
Park-like, eco-friendly element themes are appropriate. However, East Tennessee and/or Oak Ridge -
related themes are encouraged as well.
Guidelines
•
Rain Barrels will be placed outdoors, in areas fully accessible to the public. This means that the
weather and other elements of nature should be considered. Designs should be created with
durability and public safety concerns in mind.
•
Please be reminded that the audience will be broad-based and of all ages. We will not accept designs
that are religious, political or sexual in nature. The artwork may not include the use of corporate
logos.
Production of Recycling Bins
•
Artists shall produce their approved design(s) in their own studios/work space
•
It is recommended that the surface of each plastic rain barrel must be sanded with a sanding pad
and, wiped clean prior to priming and painting.
•
The recommended type of paint must be able to withstand exposure to changing weather
conditions….such as Benjamin Moore # 363 Latex low-luster enamel; this particular type of paint
serves as a primer with a protective finish.
•
Artists should be available for any touch-up work that may be required once the exhibit is installed.
•
Upon completion of the rain barrel, it will be inspected by a member of the ORRE’s design committee.
If it is determined that the artist completed the project in substantial conformity with the approved
design, the artist will be eligible for entry into a juried show with cash awards.
•
Artists must submit the finished rain barrel by April 1, 2011.
